Chapter 7

eipen de o arciereuV ei ara tauta outwV ecei

Then said the high priest, Are these things so ?

o de efh andreV adelfoi kai patereV akousate o qeoV thV doxhV wfqh tw patri hmwn abraam onti en th mesopotamia prin h katoikhsai auton en carran

And he said Men, brethren, and fathers, hearken The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran,

kai eipen proV auton exelqe ek thV ghV sou kai ek thV suggeneiaV sou kai deuro eiV ghn hn an soi deixw

And said unto him, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and come into the land which I shall shew thee.

tote exelqwn ek ghV caldaiwn katwkhsen en carran kakeiqen meta to apoqanein ton patera autou metwkisen auton eiV thn ghn tauthn eiV hn umeiV nun katoikeite

Then came he out of the land of the Chaldaeans, and dwelt in Charran: and from thence, when his father was dead he removed him into this land, wherein ye now dwell

kai ouk edwken autw klhronomian en auth oude bhma podoV kai ephggeilato autw dounai eiV katascesin authn kai tw spermati autou met auton ouk ontoV autw teknou

And he gave him none inheritance in it, no, not so much as to set his foot on: yet he promised that he would give it to him for a possession, and to his seed after him, when as yet he had no child.

elalhsen de outwV o qeoV oti estai to sperma autou paroikon en gh allotria kai doulwsousin auto kai kakwsousin eth tetrakosia

And God spake on this wise, That his seed should sojourn in a strange land; and that they should bring them into bondage and entreat them evil four hundred years.

kai to eqnoV w ean douleuswsin krinw egw eipen o qeoV kai meta tauta exeleusontai kai latreusousin moi en tw topw toutw

And the nation to whom they shall be in bondage will I judge said God: and after that shall they come forth and serve me in this place.

kai edwken autw diaqhkhn peritomhV kai outwV egennhsen ton isaak kai perietemen auton th hmera th ogdoh kai o isaak ton iakwb kai o iakwb touV dwdeka patriarcaV

And he gave him the covenant of circumcision: and so Abraham begat Isaac, and circumcised him the eighth day; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat the twelve patriarchs.

kai oi patriarcai zhlwsanteV ton iwshf apedonto eiV aigupton kai hn o qeoV met autou

And the patriarchs, moved with envy sold Joseph into Egypt: but God was with him,

kai exeileto auton ek paswn twn qliyewn autou kai edwken autw carin kai sofian enantion faraw basilewV aiguptou kai katesthsen auton hgoumenon ep aigupton kai olon ton oikon autou

And delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favour and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house.

hlqen de limoV ef olhn thn ghn aiguptou kai canaan kai qliyiV megalh kai ouc euriskon cortasmata oi patereV hmwn

Now there came a dearth over all the land of Egypt and Chanaan, and great affliction: and our fathers found no sustenance.

akousaV de iakwb onta sita en aiguptw exapesteilen touV pateraV hmwn prwton

But when Jacob heard that there was corn in Egypt, he sent out our fathers first.

kai en tw deuterw anegnwrisqh iwshf toiV adelfoiV autou kai faneron egeneto tw faraw to genoV tou iwshf

And at the second time Joseph was made known to his brethren; and Joseph's kindred was made known unto Pharaoh.

aposteilaV de iwshf metekalesato ton patera autou iakwb kai pasan thn suggeneian autou en yucaiV ebdomhkonta pente

Then sent Joseph, and called his father Jacob to him, and all his kindred , threescore and fifteen souls.

katebh de iakwb eiV aigupton kai eteleuthsen autoV kai oi patereV hmwn

So Jacob went down into Egypt, and died he, and our fathers,

kai meteteqhsan eiV sucem kai eteqhsan en tw mnhmati o wnhsato abraam timhV arguriou para twn uiwn emmor tou sucem

And were carried over into Sychem, and laid in the sepulchre that Abraham bought for a sum of money of the sons of Emmor the father of Sychem.

kaqwV de hggizen o cronoV thV epaggeliaV hV wmosen o qeoV tw abraam huxhsen o laoV kai eplhqunqh en aiguptw

But when the time of the promise drew nigh which God had sworn to Abraham, the people grew and multiplied in Egypt,

acriV ou anesth basileuV eteroV oV ouk hdei ton iwshf

Till another king arose which knew not Joseph.

outoV katasofisamenoV to genoV hmwn ekakwsen touV pateraV hmwn tou poiein ekqeta ta brefh autwn eiV to mh zwogoneisqai

The same dealt subtilly with our kindred, and evil entreated our fathers, so that they cast out their young children, to the end they might not live

en w kairw egennhqh mwshV kai hn asteioV tw qew oV anetrafh mhnaV treiV en tw oikw tou patroV autou

In which time Moses was born and was exceeding fair, and nourished up in his father's house three months:

ekteqenta de auton aneileto auton h qugathr faraw kai aneqreyato auton eauth eiV uion

And when he was cast out Pharaoh's daughter took him up and nourished him for her own son.

kai epaideuqh mwshV pash sofia aiguptiwn hn de dunatoV en logoiV kai en ergoiV

And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds.

wV de eplhrouto autw tessarakontaethV cronoV anebh epi thn kardian autou episkeyasqai touV adelfouV autou touV uiouV israhl

And when he was full forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren the children of Israel.

kai idwn tina adikoumenon hmunato kai epoihsen ekdikhsin tw kataponoumenw pataxaV ton aiguption

And seeing one of them suffer wrong he defended him, and avenged him that was oppressed and smote the Egyptian:

enomizen de sunienai touV adelfouV autou oti o qeoV dia ceiroV autou didwsin autoiV swthrian oi de ou sunhkan

For he supposed his brethren would have understood how that God by his hand would deliver them: but they understood not.

th te epioush hmera wfqh autoiV macomenoiV kai sunhlasen autouV eiV eirhnhn eipwn andreV adelfoi este umeiV inati adikeite allhlouV

And the next day he shewed himself unto them as they strove and would have set them at one again, saying Sirs, ye are brethren; why do ye wrong one to another ?

o de adikwn ton plhsion apwsato auton eipwn tiV se katesthsen arconta kai dikasthn ef hmaV

But he that did his neighbour wrong thrust him away saying Who made thee a ruler and a judge over us ?

mh anelein me su qeleiV on tropon aneileV cqeV ton aiguption

Wilt thou kill me, as thou diddest the Egyptian yesterday ?

efugen de mwshV en tw logw toutw kai egeneto paroikoV en gh madiam ou egennhsen uiouV duo

Then fled Moses at this saying, and was a stranger in the land of Midian, where he begat two sons.

kai plhrwqentwn etwn tessarakonta wfqh autw en th erhmw tou orouV sina aggeloV kuriou en flogi puroV batou

And when forty years were expired there appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sina an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush.

o de mwshV idwn eqaumasen to orama prosercomenou de autou katanohsai egeneto fwnh kuriou proV auton

When Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight: and as he drew near to behold it, the voice of the Lord came unto him,

egw o qeoV twn paterwn sou o qeoV abraam kai o qeoV isaak kai o qeoV iakwb entromoV de genomenoV mwshV ouk etolma katanohsai

Saying, I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Then Moses trembled , and durst not behold

eipen de autw o kurioV luson to upodhma twn podwn sou o gar topoV en w esthkaV gh agia estin

Then said the Lord to him, Put off thy shoes from thy feet: for the place where thou standest is holy ground.

idwn eidon thn kakwsin tou laou mou tou en aiguptw kai tou stenagmou autwn hkousa kai katebhn exelesqai autouV kai nun deuro apostelw se eiV aigupton

I have seen I have seen the affliction of my people which is in Egypt, and I have heard their groaning, and am come down to deliver them. And now come I will send thee into Egypt.

touton ton mwushn on hrnhsanto eiponteV tiV se katesthsen arconta kai dikasthn touton o qeoV arconta kai lutrwthn apesteilen en ceiri aggelou tou ofqentoV autw en th batw

This Moses whom they refused saying Who made thee a ruler and a judge ? the same did God send to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel which appeared to him in the bush.

outoV exhgagen autouV poihsaV terata kai shmeia en gh aiguptou kai en eruqra qalassh kai en th erhmw eth tessarakonta

He brought them out after that he had shewed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red sea, and in the wilderness forty years.

outoV estin o mwushV o eipwn toiV uioiV israhl profhthn umin anasthsei kurioV o qeoV umwn ek twn adelfwn umwn wV eme autou akousesqe

This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear

outoV estin o genomenoV en th ekklhsia en th erhmw meta tou aggelou tou lalountoV autw en tw orei sina kai twn paterwn hmwn oV edexato logia zwnta dounai hmin

This is he that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us:

w ouk hqelhsan uphkooi genesqai oi patereV hmwn all apwsanto kai estrafhsan taiV kardiaiV autwn eiV aigupton

To whom our fathers would not obey , but thrust him from them and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt,

eiponteV tw aarwn poihson hmin qeouV oi proporeusontai hmwn o gar mwshV outoV oV exhgagen hmaV ek ghV aiguptou ouk oidamen ti gegonen autw

Saying unto Aaron, Make us gods to go before us: for as for this Moses, which brought us out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.

kai emoscopoihsan en taiV hmeraiV ekeinaiV kai anhgagon qusian tw eidwlw kai eufrainonto en toiV ergoiV twn ceirwn autwn

And they made a calf in those days, and offered sacrifice unto the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their own hands.

estreyen de o qeoV kai paredwken autouV latreuein th stratia tou ouranou kaqwV gegraptai en biblw twn profhtwn mh sfagia kai qusiaV proshnegkate moi eth tessarakonta en th erhmw oikoV israhl

Then God turned and gave them up to worship the host of heaven; as it is written in the book of the prophets, O ye house of Israel, have ye offered to me slain beasts and sacrifices by the space of forty years in the wilderness ?

kai anelabete thn skhnhn tou moloc kai to astron tou qeou umwn remfan touV tupouV ouV epoihsate proskunein autoiV kai metoikiw umaV epekeina babulwnoV

Yea, ye took up the tabernacle of Moloch, and the star of your god Remphan, figures which ye made to worship them: and I will carry you away beyond Babylon.

h skhnh tou marturiou hn en toiV patrasin hmwn en th erhmw kaqwV dietaxato o lalwn tw mwsh poihsai authn kata ton tupon on ewrakei

Our fathers had the tabernacle of witness in the wilderness, as he had appointed speaking unto Moses, that he should make it according to the fashion that he had seen

hn kai eishgagon diadexamenoi oi patereV hmwn meta ihsou en th katascesei twn eqnwn wn exwsen o qeoV apo proswpou twn paterwn hmwn ewV twn hmerwn dabid

Which also our fathers that came after brought in with Jesus into the possession of the Gentiles, whom God drave
