Chapter 16

elegen de kai proV touV maqhtaV autou anqrwpoV tiV hn plousioV oV eicen oikonomon kai outoV dieblhqh autw wV diaskorpizwn ta uparconta autou

And he said also unto his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods

kai fwnhsaV auton eipen autw ti touto akouw peri sou apodoV ton logon thV oikonomiaV sou ou gar dunhsh eti oikonomein

And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee ? give an account of thy stewardship; for thou mayest be no longer steward

eipen de en eautw o oikonomoV ti poihsw oti o kurioV mou afaireitai thn oikonomian ap emou skaptein ouk iscuw epaitein aiscunomai

Then the steward said within himself, What shall I do for my lord taketh away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig to beg I am ashamed

egnwn ti poihsw ina otan metastaqw thV oikonomiaV dexwntai me eiV touV oikouV autwn

I am resolved what to do that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.

kai proskalesamenoV ena ekaston twn crewfeiletwn tou kuriou eautou elegen tw prwtw poson ofeileiV tw kuriw mou

So he called every one of his lord's debtors unto him, and said unto the first, How much owest thou unto my lord ?

o de eipen ekaton batouV elaiou kai eipen autw dexai sou to gramma kai kaqisaV tacewV grayon penthkonta

And he said An hundred measures of oil. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and sit down quickly, and write fifty.

epeita eterw eipen su de poson ofeileiV o de eipen ekaton korouV sitou kai legei autw dexai sou to gramma kai grayon ogdohkonta

Then said he to another, And how much owest thou ? And he said An hundred measures of wheat. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and write fourscore.

kai ephnesen o kurioV ton oikonomon thV adikiaV oti fronimwV epoihsen oti oi uioi tou aiwnoV toutou fronimwteroi uper touV uiouV tou fwtoV eiV thn genean thn eautwn eisin

And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.

kagw umin legw poihsate eautoiV filouV ek tou mamwna thV adikiaV ina otan ekliphte dexwntai umaV eiV taV aiwniouV skhnaV

And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail they may receive you into everlasting habitations.

o pistoV en elacistw kai en pollw pistoV estin kai o en elacistw adikoV kai en pollw adikoV estin

He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.

ei oun en tw adikw mamwna pistoi ouk egenesqe to alhqinon tiV umin pisteusei

If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?

kai ei en tw allotriw pistoi ouk egenesqe to umeteron tiV umin dwsei

And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man's, who shall give you that which is your own ?

oudeiV oikethV dunatai dusi kurioiV douleuein h gar ton ena mishsei kai ton eteron agaphsei h enoV anqexetai kai tou eterou katafronhsei ou dunasqe qew douleuein kai mamwna

No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

hkouon de tauta panta kai oi farisaioi filarguroi uparconteV kai exemukthrizon auton

And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him.

kai eipen autoiV umeiV este oi dikaiounteV eautouV enwpion twn anqrwpwn o de qeoV ginwskei taV kardiaV umwn oti to en anqrwpoiV uyhlon bdelugma enwpion tou qeou estin

And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.

o nomoV kai oi profhtai ewV iwannou apo tote h basileia tou qeou euaggelizetai kai paV eiV authn biazetai

The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached and every man presseth into it.

eukopwteron de estin ton ouranon kai thn ghn parelqein h tou nomou mian keraian pesein

And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass than one tittle of the law to fail

paV o apoluwn thn gunaika autou kai gamwn eteran moiceuei kai paV o apolelumenhn apo androV gamwn moiceuei

Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery

anqrwpoV de tiV hn plousioV kai enedidusketo porfuran kai busson eufrainomenoV kaq hmeran lamprwV

There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:

ptwcoV de tiV hn onomati lazaroV oV ebeblhto proV ton pulwna autou hlkwmenoV

And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores

kai epiqumwn cortasqhnai apo twn yiciwn twn piptontwn apo thV trapezhV tou plousiou alla kai oi kuneV ercomenoi apeleicon ta elkh autou

And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.

egeneto de apoqanein ton ptwcon kai apenecqhnai auton upo twn aggelwn eiV ton kolpon tou abraam apeqanen de kai o plousioV kai etafh

And it came to pass that the beggar died and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died and was buried

kai en tw adh eparaV touV ofqalmouV autou uparcwn en basanoiV ora ton abraam apo makroqen kai lazaron en toiV kolpoiV autou

And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

kai autoV fwnhsaV eipen pater abraam elehson me kai pemyon lazaron ina bayh to akron tou daktulou autou udatoV kai katayuxh thn glwssan mou oti odunwmai en th flogi tauth

And he cried and said Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

eipen de abraam teknon mnhsqhti oti apelabeV su ta agaqa sou en th zwh sou kai lazaroV omoiwV ta kaka nun de ode parakaleitai su de odunasai

But Abraham said Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted and thou art tormented

kai epi pasin toutoiV metaxu hmwn kai umwn casma mega esthriktai opwV oi qelonteV diabhnai enteuqen proV umaV mh dunwntai mhde oi ekeiqen proV hmaV diaperwsin

And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.

eipen de erwtw oun se pater ina pemyhV auton eiV ton oikon tou patroV mou

Then he said I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:

ecw gar pente adelfouV opwV diamarturhtai autoiV ina mh kai autoi elqwsin eiV ton topon touton thV basanou

For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.

legei autw abraam ecousin mwsea kai touV profhtaV akousatwsan autwn

Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.

o de eipen ouci pater abraam all ean tiV apo nekrwn poreuqh proV autouV metanohsousin

And he said Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent

eipen de autw ei mwsewV kai twn profhtwn ouk akouousin oude ean tiV ek nekrwn anasth peisqhsontai

And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rose from the dead.
