The Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the Galatians

Chapter 5

th eleuqeria oun h cristoV hmaV hleuqerwsen sthkete kai mh palin zugw douleiaV enecesqe

Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

ide egw pauloV legw umin oti ean peritemnhsqe cristoV umaV ouden wfelhsei

Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised Christ shall profit you nothing.

marturomai de palin panti anqrwpw peritemnomenw oti ofeilethV estin olon ton nomon poihsai

For I testify again to every man that is circumcised that he is a debtor to do the whole law.

kathrghqhte apo tou cristou oitineV en nomw dikaiousqe thV caritoV exepesate

Christ is become of no effect unto you whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.

hmeiV gar pneumati ek pistewV elpida dikaiosunhV apekdecomeqa

For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.

en gar cristw ihsou oute peritomh ti iscuei oute akrobustia alla pistiV di agaphV energoumenh

For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.

etrecete kalwV tiV umaV anekoyen th alhqeia mh peiqesqai

Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth ?

h peismonh ouk ek tou kalountoV umaV

This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you.

mikra zumh olon to furama zumoi

A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.

egw pepoiqa eiV umaV en kuriw oti ouden allo fronhsete o de tarasswn umaV bastasei to krima ostiV an h

I have confidence in you through the Lord, that ye will be none otherwise minded but he that troubleth you shall bear his judgment, whosoever he be

egw de adelfoi ei peritomhn eti khrussw ti eti diwkomai ara kathrghtai to skandalon tou staurou

And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I yet suffer persecution then is the offence of the cross ceased

ofelon kai apokoyontai oi anastatounteV umaV

I would they were even cut off which trouble you.

umeiV gar ep eleuqeria eklhqhte adelfoi monon mh thn eleuqerian eiV aformhn th sarki alla dia thV agaphV douleuete allhloiV

For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.

o gar paV nomoV en eni logw plhroutai en tw agaphseiV ton plhsion sou wV eauton

For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

ei de allhlouV daknete kai katesqiete blepete mh upo allhlwn analwqhte

But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another.

legw de pneumati peripateite kai epiqumian sarkoV ou mh teleshte

This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

h gar sarx epiqumei kata tou pneumatoV to de pneuma kata thV sarkoV tauta de antikeitai allhloiV ina mh a an qelhte tauta poihte

For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would

ei de pneumati agesqe ouk este upo nomon

But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

fanera de estin ta erga thV sarkoV atina estin moiceia porneia akaqarsia aselgeia

Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

eidwlolatreia farmakeia ecqrai ereiV zhloi qumoi eriqeiai dicostasiai aireseiV

Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before as I have also told you in time past that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

o de karpoV tou pneumatoV estin agaph cara eirhnh makroqumia crhstothV agaqwsunh pistiV

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

praothV egkrateia kata twn toioutwn ouk estin nomoV

Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

oi de tou cristou thn sarka estaurwsan sun toiV paqhmasin kai taiV epiqumiaiV

And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

ei zwmen pneumati pneumati kai stoicwmen

If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

mh ginwmeqa kenodoxoi allhlouV prokaloumenoi allhloiV fqonounteV

Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
