The Second Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians

Chapter 1

pauloV apostoloV ihsou cristou dia qelhmatoV qeou kai timoqeoV o adelfoV th ekklhsia tou qeou th oush en korinqw sun toiV agioiV pasin toiV ousin en olh th acaia

Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, unto the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints which are in all Achaia:

cariV umin kai eirhnh apo qeou patroV hmwn kai kuriou ihsou cristou

Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

euloghtoV o qeoV kai pathr tou kuriou hmwn ihsou cristou o pathr twn oiktirmwn kai qeoV pashV paraklhsewV

Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;

o parakalwn hmaV epi pash th qliyei hmwn eiV to dunasqai hmaV parakalein touV en pash qliyei dia thV paraklhsewV hV parakaloumeqa autoi upo tou qeou

Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

oti kaqwV perisseuei ta paqhmata tou cristou eiV hmaV outwV dia cristou perisseuei kai h paraklhsiV hmwn

For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.

eite de qlibomeqa uper thV umwn paraklhsewV kai swthriaV thV energoumenhV en upomonh twn autwn paqhmatwn wn kai hmeiV pascomen eite parakaloumeqa uper thV umwn paraklhsewV kai swthriaV kai h elpiV hmwn bebaia uper umwn

And whether we be afflicted it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer or whether we be comforted it is for your consolation and salvation.

eidoteV oti wsper koinwnoi este twn paqhmatwn outwV kai thV paraklhsewV

And our hope of you is stedfast, knowing that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation.

ou gar qelomen umaV agnoein adelfoi uper thV qliyewV hmwn thV genomenhV hmin en th asia oti kaq uperbolhn ebarhqhmen uper dunamin wste exaporhqhnai hmaV kai tou zhn

For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life

alla autoi en eautoiV to apokrima tou qanatou eschkamen ina mh pepoiqoteV wmen ef eautoiV all epi tw qew tw egeironti touV nekrouV

But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves but in God which raiseth the dead:

oV ek thlikoutou qanatou errusato hmaV kai ruetai eiV on hlpikamen oti kai eti rusetai

Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;

sunupourgountwn kai umwn uper hmwn th dehsei ina ek pollwn proswpwn to eiV hmaV carisma dia pollwn eucaristhqh uper hmwn

Ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf.

h gar kauchsiV hmwn auth estin to marturion thV suneidhsewV hmwn oti en aplothti kai eilikrineia qeou ouk en sofia sarkikh all en cariti qeou anestrafhmen en tw kosmw perissoterwV de proV umaV

For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.

ou gar alla grafomen umin all h a anaginwskete h kai epiginwskete elpizw de oti kai ewV telouV epignwsesqe

For we write none other things unto you, than what ye read or acknowledge and I trust ye shall acknowledge even to the end;

kaqwV kai epegnwte hmaV apo merouV oti kauchma umwn esmen kaqaper kai umeiV hmwn en th hmera tou kuriou ihsou

As also ye have acknowledged us in part, that we are your rejoicing, even as ye also are ours in the day of the Lord Jesus.

kai tauth th pepoiqhsei eboulomhn proV umaV elqein proteron ina deuteran carin echte

And in this confidence I was minded to come unto you before, that ye might have a second benefit;

kai di umwn dielqein eiV makedonian kai palin apo makedoniaV elqein proV umaV kai uf umwn propemfqhnai eiV thn ioudaian

And to pass by you into Macedonia, and to come again out of Macedonia unto you, and of you to be brought on my way toward Judaea.

touto oun bouleuomenoV mh ti ara th elafria ecrhsamhn h a bouleuomai kata sarka bouleuomai ina h par emoi to nai nai kai to ou ou

When I therefore was thus minded did I use lightness ? or the things that I purpose do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be yea yea, and nay nay ?

pistoV de o qeoV oti o logoV hmwn o proV umaV ouk egeneto nai kai ou

But as God is true , our word toward you was not yea and nay.

o gar tou qeou uioV ihsouV cristoV o en umin di hmwn khrucqeiV di emou kai silouanou kai timoqeou ouk egeneto nai kai ou alla nai en autw gegonen

For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yea and nay, but in him was yea.

osai gar epaggeliai qeou en autw to nai kai en autw to amhn tw qew proV doxan di hmwn

For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

o de bebaiwn hmaV sun umin eiV criston kai crisaV hmaV qeoV

Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God;

o kai sfragisamenoV hmaV kai douV ton arrabwna tou pneumatoV en taiV kardiaiV hmwn

Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

egw de martura ton qeon epikaloumai epi thn emhn yuchn oti feidomenoV umwn ouketi hlqon eiV korinqon

Moreover I call God for a record upon my soul, that to spare you I came not as yet unto Corinth.

ouc oti kurieuomen umwn thV pistewV alla sunergoi esmen thV caraV umwn th gar pistei esthkate

Not for that we have dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for by faith ye stand
