Chapter 10

ou qelw de umaV agnoein adelfoi oti oi patereV hmwn panteV upo thn nefelhn hsan kai panteV dia thV qalasshV dihlqon

Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;

kai panteV eiV ton mwshn ebaptisanto en th nefelh kai en th qalassh

And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;

kai panteV to auto brwma pneumatikon efagon

And did all eat the same spiritual meat;

kai panteV to auto poma pneumatikon epion epinon gar ek pneumatikhV akolouqoushV petraV h de petra hn o cristoV

And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them and that Rock was Christ.

all ouk en toiV pleiosin autwn eudokhsen o qeoV katestrwqhsan gar en th erhmw

But with many of them God was not well pleased for they were overthrown in the wilderness.

Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted

mhde eidwlolatrai ginesqe kaqwV tineV autwn wV gegraptai ekaqisen o laoV fagein kai piein kai anesthsan paizein

Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play

mhde porneuwmen kaqwV tineV autwn eporneusan kai epeson en mia hmera eikositreiV ciliadeV

Neither let us commit fornication as some of them committed and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.

mhde ekpeirazwmen ton criston kaqwV kai tineV autwn epeirasan kai upo twn ofewn apwlonto

Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted and were destroyed of serpents.

mhde gogguzete kaqwV kai tineV autwn egoggusan kai apwlonto upo tou oloqreutou

Neither murmur ye as some of them also murmured and were destroyed of the destroyer.

tauta de panta tupoi sunebainon ekeinoiV egrafh de proV nouqesian hmwn eiV ouV ta telh twn aiwnwn kathnthsen

Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come

wste o dokwn estanai blepetw mh pesh

Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall

peirasmoV umaV ouk eilhfen ei mh anqrwpinoV pistoV de o qeoV oV ouk easei umaV peirasqhnai uper o dunasqe alla poihsei sun tw peirasmw kai thn ekbasin tou dunasqai umaV upenegkein

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

dioper agaphtoi mou feugete apo thV eidwlolatreiaV

Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.

wV fronimoiV legw krinate umeiV o fhmi

I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say

to pothrion thV eulogiaV o eulogoumen ouci koinwnia tou aimatoV tou cristou estin ton arton on klwmen ouci koinwnia tou swmatoV tou cristou estin

The cup of blessing which we bless is it not the communion of the blood of Christ ? The bread which we break is it not the communion of the body of Christ ?

oti eiV artoV en swma oi polloi esmen oi gar panteV ek tou enoV artou metecomen

For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.

blepete ton israhl kata sarka ouci oi esqionteV taV qusiaV koinwnoi tou qusiasthriou eisin

Behold Israel after the flesh: are not they which eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar ?

ti oun fhmi oti eidwlon ti estin h oti eidwloquton ti estin

What say I then ? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing ?

all oti a quei ta eqnh daimonioiV quei kai ou qew ou qelw de umaV koinwnouV twn daimoniwn ginesqai

But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.

ou dunasqe pothrion kuriou pinein kai pothrion daimoniwn ou dunasqe trapezhV kuriou metecein kai trapezhV daimoniwn

Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils.

h parazhloumen ton kurion mh iscuroteroi autou esmen

Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy are we stronger than he ?

panta moi exestin all ou panta sumferei panta moi exestin all ou panta oikodomei

All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.

mhdeiV to eautou zhteitw alla to tou eterou ekastoV

Let no man seek his own, but every man another's wealth.

pan to en makellw pwloumenon esqiete mhden anakrinonteV dia thn suneidhsin

Whatsoever is sold in the shambles, that eat asking no question for conscience sake:

tou gar kuriou h gh kai to plhrwma authV

For the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof.

ei de tiV kalei umaV twn apistwn kai qelete poreuesqai pan to paratiqemenon umin esqiete mhden anakrinonteV dia thn suneidhsin

If any of them that believe not bid you to a feast, and ye be disposed to go whatsoever is set before you, eat asking no question for conscience sake.

ean de tiV umin eiph touto eidwloquton estin mh esqiete di ekeinon ton mhnusanta kai thn suneidhsin tou gar kuriou h gh kai to plhrwma authV

But if any man say unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof:

suneidhsin de legw ouci thn eautou alla thn tou eterou ina ti gar h eleuqeria mou krinetai upo allhV suneidhsewV

Conscience , I say not thine own, but of the other: for why is my liberty judged of another man's conscience ?

ei de egw cariti metecw ti blasfhmoumai uper ou egw eucaristw

For if I by grace be a partaker why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks

eite oun esqiete eite pinete eite ti poieite panta eiV doxan qeou poieite

Whether therefore ye eat or drink or whatsoever ye do do all to the glory of God.

aproskopoi ginesqe kai ioudaioiV kai ellhsin kai th ekklhsia tou qeou

Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God:

kaqwV kagw panta pasin areskw mh zhtwn to emautou sumferon alla to twn pollwn ina swqwsin

Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit but the profit of many, that they may be saved
