anhr de tiV ananiaV onomati sun sapfeirh th gunaiki autou epwlhsen kthma

But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,

kai enosfisato apo thV timhV suneiduiaV kai thV gunaikoV autou kai enegkaV meroV ti para touV podaV twn apostolwn eqhken

And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet.

eipen de petroV anania diati eplhrwsen o satanaV thn kardian sou yeusasqai se to pneuma to agion kai nosfisasqai apo thV timhV tou cwriou

But Peter said Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land ?

ouci menon soi emenen kai praqen en th sh exousia uphrcen ti oti eqou en th kardia sou to pragma touto ouk eyeusw anqrwpoiV alla tw qew

Whiles it remained was it not thine own and after it was sold was it not in thine own power ? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart ? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

akouwn de ananiaV touV logouV toutouV peswn exeyuxen kai egeneto foboV megaV epi pantaV touV akouontaV tauta

And Ananias hearing these words fell down and gave up the ghost and great fear came on all them that heard these things.

anastanteV de oi newteroi sunesteilan auton kai exenegkanteV eqayan

And the young men arose wound him up and carried him out and buried him.

And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done came in

And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much ? And she said Yea, for so much.

o de petroV eipen proV authn ti oti sunefwnhqh umin peirasai to pneuma kuriou idou oi podeV twn qayantwn ton andra sou epi th qura kai exoisousin se

Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord ? behold the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out

epesen de paracrhma para touV podaV autou kai exeyuxen eiselqonteV de oi neaniskoi euron authn nekran kai exenegkanteV eqayan proV ton andra authV

Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost and the young men came in and found her dead, and, carrying her forth buried her by her husband.

kai egeneto foboV megaV ef olhn thn ekklhsian kai epi pantaV touV akouontaV tauta

And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.

dia de twn ceirwn twn apostolwn egeneto shmeia kai terata en tw law polla kai hsan omoqumadon apanteV en th stoa solomwntoV

And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people ; they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch.

twn de loipwn oudeiV etolma kollasqai autoiV all emegalunen autouV o laoV

And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them.

mallon de prosetiqento pisteuonteV tw kuriw plhqh andrwn te kai gunaikwn

And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)

wste kata taV plateiaV ekferein touV asqeneiV kai tiqenai epi klinwn kai krabbatwn ina ercomenou petrou kan h skia episkiash tini autwn

Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.

sunhrceto de kai to plhqoV twn perix polewn eiV ierousalhm feronteV asqeneiV kai ocloumenouV upo pneumatwn akaqartwn oitineV eqerapeuonto apanteV

There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.

anastaV de o arciereuV kai panteV oi sun autw h ousa airesiV twn saddoukaiwn eplhsqhsan zhlou

Then the high priest rose up and all they that were with him , is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation,

kai epebalon taV ceiraV autwn epi touV apostolouV kai eqento autouV en thrhsei dhmosia

And laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison.

aggeloV de kuriou dia thV nuktoV hnoixen taV quraV thV fulakhV exagagwn te autouV eipen

But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth and said

poreuesqe kai staqenteV laleite en tw ierw tw law panta ta rhmata thV zwhV tauthV

Go stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.

akousanteV de eishlqon upo ton orqron eiV to ieron kai edidaskon paragenomenoV de o arciereuV kai oi sun autw sunekalesan to sunedrion kai pasan thn gerousian twn uiwn israhl kai apesteilan eiV to desmwthrion acqhnai autouV

And when they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning , and taught But the high priest came and they that were with him, and called the council together and all the senate of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought

oi de uphretai paragenomenoi ouc euron autouV en th fulakh anastreyanteV de aphggeilan

But when the officers came and found them not in the prison, they returned and told

legonteV oti to men desmwthrion euromen kekleismenon en pash asfaleia kai touV fulakaV exw estwtaV pro twn qurwn anoixanteV de esw oudena euromen

Saying The prison truly found we shut with all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors: but when we had opened we found no man within.

wV de hkousan touV logouV toutouV o te iereuV kai o strathgoV tou ierou kai oi arciereiV dihporoun peri autwn ti an genoito touto

Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow

paragenomenoV de tiV aphggeilen autoiV legwn oti idou oi andreV ouV eqesqe en th fulakh eisin en tw ierw estwteV kai didaskonteV ton laon

Then came one and told them, saying Behold the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people.

tote apelqwn o strathgoV sun toiV uphretaiV hgagen autouV ou meta biaV efobounto gar ton laon ina mh liqasqwsin

Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence: for they feared the people, lest they should have been stoned

agagonteV de autouV esthsan en tw sunedriw kai ephrwthsen autouV o arciereuV

And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them,

legwn ou paraggelia parhggeilamen umin mh didaskein epi tw onomati toutw kai idou peplhrwkate thn ierousalhm thV didachV umwn kai boulesqe epagagein ef hmaV to aima tou anqrwpou toutou

Saying Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name ? and, behold ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us.

apokriqeiV de o petroV kai oi apostoloi eipon peiqarcein dei qew mallon h anqrwpoiV

Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said We ought to obey God rather than men.

o qeoV twn paterwn hmwn hgeiren ihsoun on umeiV dieceirisasqe kremasanteV epi xulou

The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.

touton o qeoV archgon kai swthra uywsen th dexia autou dounai metanoian tw israhl kai afesin amartiwn

Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.

kai hmeiV esmen autou martureV twn rhmatwn toutwn kai to pneuma de to agion o edwken o qeoV toiV peiqarcousin autw

And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

oi de akousanteV dieprionto kai ebouleuonto anelein autouV

When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slay them.

anastaV de tiV en tw sunedriw farisaioV onomati gamalihl nomodidaskaloV timioV panti tw law ekeleusen exw bracu ti touV apostolouV poihsai

Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space;

eipen te proV autouV andreV israhlitai prosecete eautoiV epi toiV anqrwpoiV toutoiV ti mellete prassein

And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men.

pro gar toutwn twn hmerwn anesth qeudaV legwn einai tina eauton w prosekollhqh ariqmoV andrwn wsei tetrakosiwn oV anhreqh kai panteV osoi epeiqonto autw dieluqhsan kai egenonto eiV ouden

For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves who was slain and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered and brought to nought.

meta touton anesth ioudaV o galilaioV en taiV hmeraiV thV apografhV kai apesthsen laon ikanon opisw autou kakeinoV apwleto kai panteV osoi epeiqonto autw dieskorpisqhsan

After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed

kai ta nun legw umin aposthte apo twn anqrwpwn toutwn kai easate autouV oti ean h ex anqrwpwn h boulh auth h to ergon touto kataluqhsetai

And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought

ei de ek qeou estin ou dunasqe katalusai auto mhpote kai qeomacoi eureqhte

But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.

epeisqhsan de autw kai proskalesamenoi touV apostolouV deiranteV parhggeilan mh lalein epi tw onomati tou ihsou kai apelusan autouV

And to him they agreed and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go

oi men oun eporeuonto caironteV apo proswpou tou sunedriou oti uper tou onomatoV autou kathxiwqhsan atimasqhnai

And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

pasan te hmeran en tw ierw kai kat oikon ouk epauonto didaskonteV kai euaggelizomenoi ihsoun ton criston

And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.
