Chapter 2

kai en tw sumplhrousqai thn hmeran thV penthkosthV hsan apanteV omoqumadon epi to auto

And when the day of Pentecost was fully come they were all with one accord in one place.

kai egeneto afnw ek tou ouranou hcoV wsper feromenhV pnohV biaiaV kai eplhrwsen olon ton oikon ou hsan kaqhmenoi

And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting

kai wfqhsan autoiV diamerizomenai glwssai wsei puroV ekaqisen te ef ena ekaston autwn

And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

kai eplhsqhsan apanteV pneumatoV agiou kai hrxanto lalein eteraiV glwssaiV kaqwV to pneuma edidou autoiV apofqeggesqai

And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance

And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.

Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together and were confounded because that every man heard them speak in his own language.

existanto de panteV kai eqaumazon legonteV proV allhlouV ouk idou panteV outoi eisin oi lalounteV galilaioi

And they were all amazed and marvelled saying one to another , Behold are not all these which speak Galilaeans ?

kai pwV hmeiV akouomen ekastoV th idia dialektw hmwn en h egennhqhmen

And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born

parqoi kai mhdoi kai elamitai kai oi katoikounteV thn mesopotamian ioudaian te kai kappadokian ponton kai thn asian

Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,

frugian te kai pamfulian aigupton kai ta merh thV libuhV thV kata kurhnhn kai oi epidhmounteV rwmaioi ioudaioi te kai proshlutoi

Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome , Jews and proselytes,

krhteV kai arabeV akouomen lalountwn autwn taiV hmeteraiV glwssaiV ta megaleia tou qeou

Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.

existanto de panteV kai dihporoun alloV proV allon legonteV ti an qeloi touto einai

And they were all amazed and were in doubt saying one to another, What meaneth this ?

eteroi de cleuazonteV elegon oti gleukouV memestwmenoi eisin

Others mocking said These men are full of new wine.

staqeiV de petroV sun toiV endeka ephren thn fwnhn autou kai apefqegxato autoiV andreV ioudaioi kai oi katoikounteV ierousalhm apanteV touto umin gnwston estw kai enwtisasqe ta rhmata mou

But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:

ou gar wV umeiV upolambanete outoi mequousin estin gar wra trith thV hmeraV

For these are not drunken as ye suppose seeing it is but the third hour of the day.

alla touto estin to eirhmenon dia tou profhtou iwhl

But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;

kai estai en taiV escataiV hmeraiV legei o qeoV ekcew apo tou pneumatoV mou epi pasan sarka kai profhteusousin oi uioi umwn kai ai qugatereV umwn kai oi neaniskoi umwn oraseiV oyontai kai oi presbuteroi umwn enupnia enupniasqhsontai

And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams

kai ge epi touV doulouV mou kai epi taV doulaV mou en taiV hmeraiV ekeinaiV ekcew apo tou pneumatoV mou kai profhteusousin

And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy

kai dwsw terata en tw ouranw anw kai shmeia epi thV ghV katw aima kai pur kai atmida kapnou

And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:

o hlioV metastrafhsetai eiV skotoV kai h selhnh eiV aima prin h elqein thn hmeran kuriou thn megalhn kai epifanh

The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come

kai estai paV oV an epikaleshtai to onoma kuriou swqhsetai

And it shall come to pass that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved

andreV israhlitai akousate touV logouV toutouV ihsoun ton nazwraion andra apo tou qeou apodedeigmenon eiV umaV dunamesin kai terasin kai shmeioiV oiV epoihsen di autou o qeoV en mesw umwn kaqwV kai autoi oidate

Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know

touton th wrismenh boulh kai prognwsei tou qeou ekdoton labonteV dia ceirwn anomwn prosphxanteV aneilete

Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken and by wicked hands have crucified and slain

on o qeoV anesthsen lusaV taV wdinaV tou qanatou kaqoti ouk hn dunaton krateisqai auton up autou

Whom God hath raised up having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.

dabid gar legei eiV auton prowrwmhn ton kurion enwpion mou dia pantoV oti ek dexiwn mou estin ina mh saleuqw

For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved

dia touto eufranqh h kardia mou kai hgalliasato h glwssa mou eti de kai h sarx mou kataskhnwsei ep elpidi

Therefore did my heart rejoice and my tongue was glad moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:

oti ouk egkataleiyeiV thn yuchn mou eiV adou oude dwseiV ton osion sou idein diafqoran

Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

egnwrisaV moi odouV zwhV plhrwseiV me eufrosunhV meta tou proswpou sou

Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.

andreV adelfoi exon eipein meta parrhsiaV proV umaV peri tou patriarcou dabid oti kai eteleuthsen kai etafh kai to mnhma autou estin en hmin acri thV hmeraV tauthV

Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.

profhthV oun uparcwn kai eidwV oti orkw wmosen autw o qeoV ek karpou thV osfuoV autou to kata sarka anasthsein ton criston kaqisai epi tou qronou autou

Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;

proidwn elalhsen peri thV anastasewV tou cristou oti ou kateleifqh h yuch autou eiV adou oude h sarx autou eiden diafqoran

He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.

touton ton ihsoun anesthsen o qeoV ou panteV hmeiV esmen martureV

This Jesus hath God raised up whereof we all are witnesses.

th dexia oun tou qeou uywqeiV thn te epaggelian tou agiou pneumatoV labwn para tou patroV execeen touto o nun umeiV blepete kai akouete

Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear

ou gar dabid anebh eiV touV ouranouV legei de autoV eipen o kurioV tw kuriw mou kaqou ek dexiwn mou

For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,

ewV an qw touV ecqrouV sou upopodion twn podwn sou

Until I make thy foes thy footstool .

asfalwV oun ginwsketw paV oikoV israhl oti kai kurion kai criston auton o qeoV epoihsen touton ton ihsoun on umeiV estaurwsate

Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified both Lord and Christ.

akousanteV de katenughsan th kardia eipon te proV ton petron kai touV loipouV apostolouV ti poihsomen andreV adelfoi

Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do

petroV de efh proV autouV metanohsate kai baptisqhtw ekastoV umwn epi tw onomati ihsou cristou eiV afesin amartiwn kai lhyesqe thn dwrean tou agiou pneumatoV

Then Peter said unto them, Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

umin gar estin h epaggelia kai toiV teknoiV umwn kai pasin toiV eiV makran osouV an proskaleshtai kurioV o qeoV hmwn

For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off , even as many as the Lord our God shall call

eteroiV te logoiV pleiosin diemartureto kai parekalei legwn swqhte apo thV geneaV thV skoliaV tauthV

And with many other words did he testify and exhort saying Save yourselves from this untoward generation.

oi men oun asmenwV apodexamenoi ton logon autou ebaptisqhsan kai proseteqhsan th hmera ekeinh yucai wsei trisciliai

Then they that gladly received his word were baptized and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

hsan de proskarterounteV th didach twn apostolwn kai th koinwnia kai th klasei tou artou kai taiV proseucaiV

And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

egeneto de pash yuch foboV polla te terata kai shmeia dia twn apostolwn egineto

And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.

panteV de oi pisteuonteV hsan epi to auto kai eicon apanta koina

And all that believed were together , and had all things common;

kai ta kthmata kai taV uparxeiV epipraskon kai diemerizon auta pasin kaqoti an tiV creian eicen

And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.

kaq hmeran te proskarterounteV omoqumadon en tw ierw klwnteV te kat oikon arton metelambanon trofhV en agalliasei kai afelothti kardiaV

And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,

ainounteV ton qeon kai econteV carin proV olon ton laon o de kurioV prosetiqei touV swzomenouV kaq hmeran th ekklhsia

Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved
