tote oun elaben o pilatoV ton ihsoun kai emastigwsen

Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged him.

kai oi stratiwtai plexanteV stefanon ex akanqwn epeqhkan autou th kefalh kai imation porfuroun periebalon auton

And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and they put on him a purple robe,

kai elegon caire o basileuV twn ioudaiwn kai edidoun autw rapismata

And said Hail King of the Jews! and they smote him with their hands.

exhlqen oun palin exw o pilatoV kai legei autoiV ide agw umin auton exw ina gnwte oti en autw oudemian aitian euriskw

Pilate therefore went forth again, and saith unto them, Behold, I bring him forth to you, that ye may know that I find no fault in him.

exhlqen oun o ihsouV exw forwn ton akanqinon stefanon kai to porfuroun imation kai legei autoiV ide o anqrwpoV

Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate saith unto them, Behold the man!

ote oun eidon auton oi arciereiV kai oi uphretai ekraugasan legonteV staurwson staurwson legei autoiV o pilatoV labete auton umeiV kai staurwsate egw gar ouc euriskw en autw aitian

When the chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they cried out saying Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Take ye him, and crucify him: for I find no fault in him.

apekriqhsan autw oi ioudaioi hmeiV nomon ecomen kai kata ton nomon hmwn ofeilei apoqanein oti eauton uion qeou epoihsen

The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die because he made himself the Son of God.

When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he was the more afraid

kai eishlqen eiV to praitwrion palin kai legei tw ihsou poqen ei su o de ihsouV apokrisin ouk edwken autw

And went again into the judgment hall, and saith unto Jesus, Whence art thou ? But Jesus gave him no answer.

legei oun autw o pilatoV emoi ou laleiV ouk oidaV oti exousian ecw staurwsai se kai exousian ecw apolusai se

Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me ? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee ?

apekriqh o ihsouV ouk eiceV exousian oudemian kat emou ei mh hn soi dedomenon anwqen dia touto o paradidouV me soi meizona amartian ecei

Jesus answered Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.

ek toutou ezhtei o pilatoV apolusai auton oi de ioudaioi ekrazon legonteV ean touton apolushV ouk ei filoV tou kaisaroV paV o basilea auton poiwn antilegei tw kaisari

And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out saying If thou let this man go thou art not Caesar's friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar.

When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus forth, and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha.

hn de paraskeuh tou pasca wra de wsei ekth kai legei toiV ioudaioiV ide o basileuV umwn

And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King!

oi de ekraugasan aron aron staurwson auton legei autoiV o pilatoV ton basilea umwn staurwsw apekriqhsan oi arciereiV ouk ecomen basilea ei mh kaisara

But they cried out Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King ? The chief priests answered We have no king but Caesar.

Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified And they took Jesus, and led him away

kai bastazwn ton stauron autou exhlqen eiV ton legomenon kraniou topon oV legetai ebraisti golgoqa

And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:

opou auton estaurwsan kai met autou allouV duo enteuqen kai enteuqen meson de ton ihsoun

Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one , and Jesus in the midst.

egrayen de kai titlon o pilatoV kai eqhken epi tou staurou hn de gegrammenon ihsouV o nazwraioV o basileuV twn ioudaiwn

And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.

touton oun ton titlon polloi anegnwsan twn ioudaiwn oti egguV hn thV polewV o topoV opou estaurwqh o ihsouV kai hn gegrammenon ebraisti ellhnisti rwmaisti

This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin.

elegon oun tw pilatw oi arciereiV twn ioudaiwn mh grafe o basileuV twn ioudaiwn all oti ekeinoV eipen basileuV eimi twn ioudaiwn

Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said I am King of the Jews.

apekriqh o pilatoV o gegrafa gegrafa

Pilate answered What I have written I have written

oi oun stratiwtai ote estaurwsan ton ihsoun elabon ta imatia autou kai epoihsan tessara merh ekastw stratiwth meroV kai ton citwna hn de o citwn arrafoV ek twn anwqen ufantoV di olou

Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout .

eipon oun proV allhlouV mh sciswmen auton alla lacwmen peri autou tinoV estai ina h grafh plhrwqh h legousa diemerisanto ta imatia mou eautoiV kai epi ton imatismon mou ebalon klhron oi men oun stratiwtai tauta epoihsan

They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be that the scripture might be fulfilled which saith They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did

eisthkeisan de para tw staurw tou ihsou h mhthr autou kai h adelfh thV mhtroV autou maria h tou klwpa kai maria h magdalhnh

Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.

ihsouV oun idwn thn mhtera kai ton maqhthn parestwta on hgapa legei th mhtri autou gunai idou o uioV sou

When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by whom he loved he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!

eita legei tw maqhth idou h mhthr sou kai ap ekeinhV thV wraV elaben authn o maqhthV eiV ta idia

Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.

meta touto eidwV o ihsouV oti panta hdh tetelestai ina teleiwqh h grafh legei diyw

After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished that the scripture might be fulfilled saith I thirst

skeuoV oun ekeito oxouV meston oi de plhsanteV spoggon oxouV kai usswpw periqenteV proshnegkan autou tw stomati

Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.

ote oun elaben to oxoV o ihsouV eipen tetelestai kai klinaV thn kefalhn paredwken to pneuma

When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said It is finished and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

oi oun ioudaioi ina mh meinh epi tou staurou ta swmata en tw sabbatw epei paraskeuh hn hn gar megalh h hmera ekeinou tou sabbatou hrwthsan ton pilaton ina kateagwsin autwn ta skelh kai arqwsin

The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day , that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken and that they might be taken away

hlqon oun oi stratiwtai kai tou men prwtou kateaxan ta skelh kai tou allou tou sustaurwqentoV autw

Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.

epi de ton ihsoun elqonteV wV eidon auton hdh teqnhkota ou kateaxan autou ta skelh

But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:

all eiV twn stratiwtwn logch autou thn pleuran enuxen kai euquV exhlqen aima kai udwr

But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.

kai o ewrakwV memarturhken kai alhqinh autou estin h marturia kakeinoV oiden oti alhqh legei ina umeiV pisteushte

And he that saw it bare record and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe

egeneto gar tauta ina h grafh plhrwqh ostoun ou suntribhsetai autou

For these things were done that the scripture should be fulfilled A bone of him shall not be broken

kai palin etera grafh legei oyontai eiV on exekenthsan

And again another scripture saith They shall look on him whom they pierced

meta de tauta hrwthsen ton pilaton o iwshf o apo arimaqaiaV wn maqhthV tou ihsou kekrummenoV de dia ton fobon twn ioudaiwn ina arh to swma tou ihsou kai epetreyen o pilatoV hlqen oun kai hren to swma tou ihsou

And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus.

hlqen de kai nikodhmoV o elqwn proV ton ihsoun nuktoV to prwton ferwn migma smurnhV kai alohV wsei litraV ekaton

And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight.

elabon oun to swma tou ihsou kai edhsan auto oqonioiV meta twn arwmatwn kaqwV eqoV estin toiV ioudaioiV entafiazein

Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury

hn de en tw topw opou estaurwqh khpoV kai en tw khpw mnhmeion kainon en w oudepw oudeiV eteqh

Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid

ekei oun dia thn paraskeuhn twn ioudaiwn oti egguV hn to mnhmeion eqhkan ton ihsoun

There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews' preparation day; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand.
