Chapter 2

kai palin eishlqen eiV kapernaoum di hmerwn kai hkousqh oti eiV oikon estin

And again he entered into Capernaum after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house.

kai euqewV sunhcqhsan polloi wste mhketi cwrein mhde ta proV thn quran kai elalei autoiV ton logon

And straightway many were gathered together insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them.

kai ercontai proV auton paralutikon feronteV airomenon upo tessarwn

And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four.

kai mh dunamenoi proseggisai autw dia ton oclon apestegasan thn steghn opou hn kai exoruxanteV calwsin ton krabbaton ef w o paralutikoV katekeito

And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was and when they had broken it up they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay

When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.

hsan de tineV twn grammatewn ekei kaqhmenoi kai dialogizomenoi en taiV kardiaiV autwn

But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,

ti outoV outwV lalei blasfhmiaV tiV dunatai afienai amartiaV ei mh eiV o qeoV

Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies ? who can forgive sins but God only ?

kai euqewV epignouV o ihsouV tw pneumati autou oti outwV dialogizontai en eautoiV eipen autoiV ti tauta dialogizesqe en taiV kardiaiV umwn

And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts ?

ti estin eukopwteron eipein tw paralutikw afewntai soi ai amartiai h eipein egeirai kai aron sou ton krabbaton kai peripatei

Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say Arise and take up thy bed, and walk

ina de eidhte oti exousian ecei o uioV tou anqrwpou afienai epi thV ghV amartiaV legei tw paralutikw

But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, saith to the sick of the palsy,)

soi legw egeirai kai aron ton krabbaton sou kai upage eiV ton oikon sou

I say unto thee, Arise and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.

kai hgerqh euqewV kai araV ton krabbaton exhlqen enantion pantwn wste existasqai pantaV kai doxazein ton qeon legontaV oti oudepote outwV eidomen

And immediately he arose took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying We never saw it on this fashion.

kai exhlqen palin para thn qalassan kai paV o ocloV hrceto proV auton kai edidasken autouV

And he went forth again by the sea side; and all the multitude resorted unto him, and he taught them.

kai paragwn eiden leuin ton tou alfaiou kaqhmenon epi to telwnion kai legei autw akolouqei moi kai anastaV hkolouqhsen autw

And as he passed by he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the receipt of custom, and said unto him, Follow me. And he arose and followed him.

kai egeneto en tw katakeisqai auton en th oikia autou kai polloi telwnai kai amartwloi sunanekeinto tw ihsou kai toiV maqhtaiV autou hsan gar polloi kai hkolouqhsan autw

And it came to pass that, as Jesus sat at meat in his house, many publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed him.

kai oi grammateiV kai oi farisaioi idonteV auton esqionta meta twn telwnwn kai amartwlwn elegon toiV maqhtaiV autou ti oti meta twn telwnwn kai amartwlwn esqiei kai pinei

And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners ?

kai akousaV o ihsouV legei autoiV ou creian ecousin oi iscuonteV iatrou all oi kakwV econteV ouk hlqon kalesai dikaiouV alla amartwlouV eiV metanoian

When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

kai hsan oi maqhtai iwannou kai oi twn farisaiwn nhsteuonteV kai ercontai kai legousin autw diati oi maqhtai iwannou kai oi twn farisaiwn nhsteuousin oi de soi maqhtai ou nhsteuousin

And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast and they come and say unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast but thy disciples fast not ?

kai eipen autoiV o ihsouV mh dunantai oi uioi tou numfwnoV en w o numfioV met autwn estin nhsteuein oson cronon meq eautwn ecousin ton numfion ou dunantai nhsteuein

And Jesus said unto them , Can the children of the bridechamber fast while the bridegroom is with them ? as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast

eleusontai de hmerai otan aparqh ap autwn o numfioV kai tote nhsteusousin en ekeinaiV taiV hmeraiV

But the days will come when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.

kai oudeiV epiblhma rakouV agnafou epirraptei epi imatiw palaiw ei de mh airei to plhrwma autou to kainon tou palaiou kai ceiron scisma ginetai

No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment: else the new piece that filled it up taketh away from the old, and the rent is made worse.

kai oudeiV ballei oinon neon eiV askouV palaiouV ei de mh rhssei o oinoV o neoV touV askouV kai o oinoV ekceitai kai oi askoi apolountai alla oinon neon eiV askouV kainouV blhteon

And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled and the bottles will be marred but new wine must be put into new bottles.

kai egeneto paraporeuesqai auton en toiV sabbasin dia twn sporimwn kai hrxanto oi maqhtai autou odon poiein tillonteV touV stacuaV

And it came to pass that he went through the corn fields on the sabbath day; and his disciples began as they went to pluck the ears of corn.

kai oi farisaioi elegon autw ide ti poiousin en toiV sabbasin o ouk exestin

And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful

kai autoV elegen autoiV oudepote anegnwte ti epoihsen dabid ote creian escen kai epeinasen autoV kai oi met autou

And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did when he had need, and was an hungred he, and they that were with him ?

pwV eishlqen eiV ton oikon tou qeou epi abiaqar tou arcierewV kai touV artouV thV proqesewV efagen ouV ouk exestin fagein ei mh toiV iereusin kai edwken kai toiV sun autw ousin

How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread , which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him ?

kai elegen autoiV to sabbaton dia ton anqrwpon egeneto ouc o anqrwpoV dia to sabbaton

And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:

wste kurioV estin o uioV tou anqrwpou kai tou sabbatou

Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
