Chapter 15

tote prosercontai tw ihsou oi apo ierosolumwn grammateiV kai farisaioi legonteV

Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying

diati oi maqhtai sou parabainousin thn paradosin twn presbuterwn ou gar niptontai taV ceiraV autwn otan arton esqiwsin

Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders ? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread.

o de apokriqeiV eipen autoiV diati kai umeiV parabainete thn entolhn tou qeou dia thn paradosin umwn

But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition ?

o gar qeoV eneteilato legwn tima ton patera sou kai thn mhtera kai o kakologwn patera h mhtera qanatw teleutatw

For God commanded saying Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.

umeiV de legete oV an eiph tw patri h th mhtri dwron o ean ex emou wfelhqhV kai ou mh timhsh ton patera autou h thn mhtera autou

But ye say Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;

kai hkurwsate thn entolhn tou qeou dia thn paradosin umwn

And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.

upokritai kalwV proefhteusen peri umwn hsaiaV legwn

Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying

eggizei moi o laoV outoV tw stomati autwn kai toiV ceilesin me tima h de kardia autwn porrw apecei ap emou

This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.

mathn de sebontai me didaskonteV didaskaliaV entalmata anqrwpwn

But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

kai proskalesamenoV ton oclon eipen autoiV akouete kai suniete

And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear and understand

ou to eisercomenon eiV to stoma koinoi ton anqrwpon alla to ekporeuomenon ek tou stomatoV touto koinoi ton anqrwpon

Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.

tote proselqonteV oi maqhtai autou eipon autw oidaV oti oi farisaioi akousanteV ton logon eskandalisqhsan

Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended after they heard this saying ?

o de apokriqeiV eipen pasa futeia hn ouk efuteusen o pathr mou o ouranioV ekrizwqhsetai

But he answered and said Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted shall be rooted up

afete autouV odhgoi eisin tufloi tuflwn tufloV de tuflon ean odhgh amfoteroi eiV boqunon pesountai

Let them alone they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.

apokriqeiV de o petroV eipen autw frason hmin thn parabolhn tauthn

Then answered Peter and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable.

o de ihsouV eipen akmhn kai umeiV asunetoi este

And Jesus said Are ye also yet without understanding ?

oupw noeite oti pan to eisporeuomenon eiV to stoma eiV thn koilian cwrei kai eiV afedrwna ekballetai

Do not ye yet understand that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught ?

ta de ekporeuomena ek tou stomatoV ek thV kardiaV exercetai kakeina koinoi ton anqrwpon

But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.

ek gar thV kardiaV exercontai dialogismoi ponhroi fonoi moiceiai porneiai klopai yeudomarturiai blasfhmiai

For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:

tauta estin ta koinounta ton anqrwpon to de aniptoiV cersin fagein ou koinoi ton anqrwpon

These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.

kai exelqwn ekeiqen o ihsouV anecwrhsen eiV ta merh turou kai sidwnoV

Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.

kai idou gunh cananaia apo twn oriwn ekeinwn exelqousa ekraugasen autw legousa elehson me kurie uie dabid h qugathr mou kakwV daimonizetai

And, behold a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil

o de ouk apekriqh auth logon kai proselqonteV oi maqhtai autou hrwtwn auton legonteV apoluson authn oti krazei opisqen hmwn

But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying Send her away for she crieth after us.

o de apokriqeiV eipen ouk apestalhn ei mh eiV ta probata ta apolwlota oikou israhl

But he answered and said I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

h de elqousa prosekunei autw legousa kurie bohqei moi

Then came she and worshipped him, saying Lord, help me.

o de apokriqeiV eipen ouk estin kalon labein ton arton twn teknwn kai balein toiV kunarioiV

But he answered and said It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs.

h de eipen nai kurie kai gar ta kunaria esqiei apo twn yiciwn twn piptontwn apo thV trapezhV twn kuriwn autwn

And she said Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.

tote apokriqeiV o ihsouV eipen auth w gunai megalh sou h pistiV genhqhtw soi wV qeleiV kai iaqh h qugathr authV apo thV wraV ekeinhV

Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

kai metabaV ekeiqen o ihsouV hlqen para thn qalassan thV galilaiaV kai anabaV eiV to oroV ekaqhto ekei

And Jesus departed from thence, and came nigh unto the sea of Galilee; and went up into a mountain, and sat down there.

kai proshlqon autw ocloi polloi econteV meq eautwn cwlouV tuflouV kwfouV kullouV kai eterouV pollouV kai erriyan autouV para touV podaV tou ihsou kai eqerapeusen autouV

And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus' feet; and he healed them:

wste touV oclouV qaumasai blepontaV kwfouV lalountaV kullouV ugieiV cwlouV peripatountaV kai tuflouV blepontaV kai edoxasan ton qeon israhl

Insomuch that the multitude wondered when they saw the dumb to speak the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk and the blind to see and they glorified the God of Israel.

o de ihsouV proskalesamenoV touV maqhtaV autou eipen splagcnizomai epi ton oclon oti hdh hmeraV treiV prosmenousin moi kai ouk ecousin ti fagwsin kai apolusai autouV nhsteiV ou qelw mhpote ekluqwsin en th odw

Then Jesus called his disciples unto him, and said I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way.

kai legousin autw oi maqhtai autou poqen hmin en erhmia artoi tosoutoi wste cortasai oclon tosouton

And his disciples say unto him, Whence should we have so much bread in the wilderness, as to fill so great a multitude ?

kai legei autoiV o ihsouV posouV artouV ecete oi de eipon epta kai oliga icqudia

And Jesus saith unto them, How many loaves have ye And they said Seven, and a few little fishes.

kai ekeleusen toiV ocloiV anapesein epi thn ghn

And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground.

kai labwn touV epta artouV kai touV icquaV eucaristhsaV eklasen kai edwken toiV maqhtaiV autou oi de maqhtai tw oclw

And he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks and brake them, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.

kai efagon panteV kai ecortasqhsan kai hran to perisseuon twn klasmatwn epta spuridaV plhreiV

And they did all eat and were filled and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets full.

oi de esqionteV hsan tetrakiscilioi andreV cwriV gunaikwn kai paidiwn

And they that did eat were four thousand men, beside women and children.

kai apolusaV touV oclouV enebh eiV to ploion kai hlqen eiV ta oria magdala

And he sent away the multitude, and took ship , and came into the coasts of Magdala.
