Chapter 12

en ekeinw tw kairw eporeuqh o ihsouV toiV sabbasin dia twn sporimwn oi de maqhtai autou epeinasan kai hrxanto tillein stacuaV kai esqiein

At that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were an hungred and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat

oi de farisaioi idonteV eipon autw idou oi maqhtai sou poiousin o ouk exestin poiein en sabbatw

But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath day.

o de eipen autoiV ouk anegnwte ti epoihsen dabid ote epeinasen autoV kai oi met autou

But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did when he was an hungred and they that were with him;

pwV eishlqen eiV ton oikon tou qeou kai touV artouV thV proqesewV efagen ouV ouk exon hn autw fagein oude toiV met autou ei mh toiV iereusin monoiV

How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the shewbread , which was not lawful for him to eat neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests ?

h ouk anegnwte en tw nomw oti toiV sabbasin oi iereiV en tw ierw to sabbaton bebhlousin kai anaitioi eisin

Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless ?

legw de umin oti tou ierou meizwn estin wde

But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple.

ei de egnwkeite ti estin eleon qelw kai ou qusian ouk an katedikasate touV anaitiouV

But if ye had known what this meaneth I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless.

kurioV gar estin kai tou sabbatou o uioV tou anqrwpou

For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.

kai metabaV ekeiqen hlqen eiV thn sunagwghn autwn

And when he was departed thence, he went into their synagogue:

kai idou anqrwpoV hn thn ceira ecwn xhran kai ephrwthsan auton legonteV ei exestin toiV sabbasin qerapeuein ina kathgorhswsin autou

And, behold there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days ? that they might accuse him.

o de eipen autoiV tiV estai ex umwn anqrwpoV oV exei probaton en kai ean empesh touto toiV sabbasin eiV boqunon ouci krathsei auto kai egerei

And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out

posw oun diaferei anqrwpoV probatou wste exestin toiV sabbasin kalwV poiein

How much then is a man better than a sheep ? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.

tote legei tw anqrwpw ekteinon thn ceira sou kai exeteinen kai apokatestaqh ugihV wV h allh

Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth and it was restored whole, like as the other.

oi de farisaioi sumboulion elabon kat autou exelqonteV opwV auton apoleswsin

Then the Pharisees went out and held a council against him, how they might destroy him.

o de ihsouV gnouV anecwrhsen ekeiqen kai hkolouqhsan autw ocloi polloi kai eqerapeusen autouV pantaV

But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself from thence: and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all;

kai epetimhsen autoiV ina mh faneron auton poihswsin

And charged them that they should not make him known:

opwV plhrwqh to rhqen dia hsaiou tou profhtou legontoV

That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying

idou o paiV mou on hretisa o agaphtoV mou eiV on eudokhsen h yuch mou qhsw to pneuma mou ep auton kai krisin toiV eqnesin apaggelei

Behold my servant, whom I have chosen my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles.

ouk erisei oude kraugasei oude akousei tiV en taiV plateiaiV thn fwnhn autou

He shall not strive nor cry neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets.

kalamon suntetrimmenon ou kateaxei kai linon tufomenon ou sbesei ewV an ekbalh eiV nikoV thn krisin

A bruised reed shall he not break and smoking flax shall he not quench till he send forth judgment unto victory.

kai en tw onomati autou eqnh elpiousin

And in his name shall the Gentiles trust

tote proshnecqh autw daimonizomenoV tufloV kai kwfoV kai eqerapeusen auton wste ton tuflon kai kwfon kai lalein kai blepein

Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw

kai existanto panteV oi ocloi kai elegon mhti outoV estin o uioV dabid

And all the people were amazed and said Is not this the son of David ?

oi de farisaioi akousanteV eipon outoV ouk ekballei ta daimonia ei mh en tw beelzeboul arconti twn daimoniwn

But when the Pharisees heard it, they said This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.

eidwV de o ihsouV taV enqumhseiV autwn eipen autoiV pasa basileia merisqeisa kaq eauthV erhmoutai kai pasa poliV h oikia merisqeisa kaq eauthV ou staqhsetai

And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand

kai ei o satanaV ton satanan ekballei ef eauton emerisqh pwV oun staqhsetai h basileia autou

And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand

kai ei egw en beelzeboul ekballw ta daimonia oi uioi umwn en tini ekballousin dia touto autoi umwn esontai kritai

And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out therefore they shall be your judges.

ei de egw en pneumati qeou ekballw ta daimonia ara efqasen ef umaV h basileia tou qeou

But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.

h pwV dunatai tiV eiselqein eiV thn oikian tou iscurou kai ta skeuh autou diarpasai ean mh prwton dhsh ton iscuron kai tote thn oikian autou diarpasei

Or else how can one enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man ? and then he will spoil his house.

o mh wn met emou kat emou estin kai o mh sunagwn met emou skorpizei

He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad

dia touto legw umin pasa amartia kai blasfhmia afeqhsetai toiV anqrwpoiV h de tou pneumatoV blasfhmia ouk afeqhsetai toiV anqrwpoiV

Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.

kai oV an eiph logon kata tou uiou tou anqrwpou afeqhsetai autw oV d an eiph kata tou pneumatoV tou agiou ouk afeqhsetai autw oute en toutw tw aiwni oute en tw mellonti

And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come

h poihsate to dendron kalon kai ton karpon autou kalon h poihsate to dendron sapron kai ton karpon autou sapron ek gar tou karpou to dendron ginwsketai

Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit.

gennhmata ecidnwn pwV dunasqe agaqa lalein ponhroi onteV ek gar tou perisseumatoV thV kardiaV to stoma lalei

O generation of vipers, how can ye being evil, speak good things ? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh

o agaqoV anqrwpoV ek tou agaqou qhsaurou thV kardiaV ekballei ta agaqa kai o ponhroV anqrwpoV ek tou ponhrou qhsaurou ekballei ponhra

A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.

legw de umin oti pan rhma argon o ean lalhswsin oi anqrwpoi apodwsousin peri autou logon en hmera krisewV

But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

ek gar twn logwn sou dikaiwqhsh kai ek twn logwn sou katadikasqhsh

For by thy words thou shalt be justified and by thy words thou shalt be condemned

tote apekriqhsan tineV twn grammatewn kai farisaiwn legonteV didaskale qelomen apo sou shmeion idein

Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered saying Master, we would see a sign from thee.

o de apokriqeiV eipen autoiV genea ponhra kai moicaliV shmeion epizhtei kai shmeion ou doqhsetai auth ei mh to shmeion iwna tou profhtou

But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:

wsper gar hn iwnaV en th koilia tou khtouV treiV hmeraV kai treiV nuktaV outwV estai o uioV tou anqrwpou en th kardia thV ghV treiV hmeraV kai treiV nuktaV

For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

andreV nineuitai anasthsontai en th krisei meta thV geneaV tauthV kai katakrinousin authn oti metenohsan eiV to khrugma iwna kai idou pleion iwna wde

The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold a greater than Jonas is here.

basilissa notou egerqhsetai en th krisei meta thV geneaV tauthV kai katakrinei authn oti hlqen ek twn peratwn thV ghV akousai thn sofian solomwntoV kai idou pleion solomwntoV wde

The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold a greater than Solomon is here.

otan de to akaqarton pneuma exelqh apo tou anqrwpou diercetai di anudrwn topwn zhtoun anapausin kai ouc euriskei

When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.

tote legei epistreyw eiV ton oikon mou oqen exhlqon kai elqon euriskei scolazonta sesarwmenon kai kekosmhmenon

Then he saith I will return into my house from whence I came out and when he is come he findeth it empty swept and garnished

tote poreuetai kai paralambanei meq eautou epta etera pneumata ponhrotera eautou kai eiselqonta katoikei ekei kai ginetai ta escata tou anqrwpou ekeinou ceirona twn prwtwn outwV estai kai th genea tauth th ponhra

Then goeth he and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.

eti de autou lalountoV toiV ocloiV idou h mhthr kai oi adelfoi autou eisthkeisan exw zhtounteV autw lalhsai

While he yet talked to the people, behold his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him.

eipen de tiV autw idou h mhthr sou kai oi adelfoi sou exw esthkasin zhtounteV soi lalhsai

Then one said unto him, Behold thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee.

o de apokriqeiV eipen tw eiponti autw tiV estin h mhthr mou kai tineV eisin oi adelfoi mou

But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother ? and who are my brethren ?

kai ekteinaV thn ceira autou epi touV maqhtaV autou eipen idou h mhthr mou kai oi adelfoi mou

And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said Behold my mother and my brethren!

ostiV gar an poihsh to qelhma tou patroV mou tou en ouranoiV autoV mou adelfoV kai adelfh kai mhthr estin

For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.
