The Book of Nahum

Chapter 1

The burden of Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.

God [is] jealous, and the LORD revengeth;6 the LORD revengeth,6 and [is] furious; 2534 the LORD will take vengeance6 on his adversaries, and he reserveth6 [wrath] for his enemies.6

The LORD [is] slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all15 acquit17 [the wicked]: the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds [are] the dust of his feet.

He rebuketh6 the sea, and maketh it dry,17 and drieth up52 all the rivers: Bashan languisheth,49 and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languisheth.49

The mountains quake1 at him, and the hills melt,110 and the earth is burned4 at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell6 therein.

Who can stand4 before his indignation? and who can abide4 in the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out8 like fire, and the rocks are thrown down8 by him.

The LORD [is] good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth6 them that trust6 in him.

But with an overrunning6 flood he will make4 an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue17 his enemies.6

What do ye imagine17 against the LORD? he will make6 an utter end: affliction shall not rise up4 the second time.

For while [they be] folden together7 [as] thorns, and while they are drunken7 [as] drunkards, they shall be devoured27 as stubble fully dry.

There is [one] come out1 of thee, that imagineth6 evil against the LORD, a wicked counsellor.6

Thus saith1 the LORD; Though [they be] quiet, and likewise many, yet thus shall they be cut down,8 when he shall pass through.1 Though I have afflicted14 thee, I will afflict17 thee no more.

For now will I break4 his yoke from off thee, and will burst17 thy bonds in sunder.

And the LORD hath given a commandment14 concerning thee, [that] no more of thy name be sown:11 out of the house of thy gods will I cut off55 the graven image and the molten image: I will make4 thy grave; for thou art vile.1

Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings,18 that publisheth56 peace! O Judah, keep3 thy solemn feasts, perform16 thy vows: for the wicked shall no more55 pass2 through thee; he is utterly cut off.8
