The Proverbs

Chapter 28

1

The wicked flee1 when no man pursueth:6 but the righteous are bold4 as a lion.

2

For the transgression of a land many [are] the princes thereof: but by a man of understanding56 [and] knowledge6 the state [thereof] shall be prolonged.55

3

A poor6 man that oppresseth6 the poor [is like] a sweeping6 rain which leaveth no food.

4

They that forsake6 the law praise17 the wicked: but such as keep6 the law contend101 with them.

5

Evil men understand4 not judgment: but they that seek18 the LORD understand4 all [things].

6

Better [is] the poor6 that walketh6 in his uprightness, than [he that is] perverse [in his] ways, though he [be] rich.

7

Whoso keepeth6 the law [is] a wise56 son: but he that is a companion6 of riotous6 [men] shameth55 his father.

8

He that by usury and unjust gain increaseth56 his substance, he shall gather17 it for him that will pity6 the poor.

9

He that turneth away56 his ear from hearing2 the law, even his prayer [shall be] abomination.

10

Whoso causeth the righteous to go astray56 in an evil way, he shall fall4 himself into his own pit: but the upright shall have good [things] in possession.4

The rich man [is] wise in his own conceit; but the poor that hath understanding56 searcheth him out.4

12

When righteous [men] do rejoice,2 [there is] great glory: but when the wicked rise,2 a man is hidden.29

13

He that covereth18 his sins shall not prosper:55 but whoso confesseth56 and forsaketh6 [them] shall have mercy.29

14

Happy [is] the man that feareth18 alway: but he that hardeneth56 his heart shall fall4 into mischief.

15

[As] a roaring6 lion, and a ranging6 bear; [so is] a wicked ruler6 over the poor people.

16

The prince that wanteth understanding [is] also a great oppressor: [but] he that hateth6 covetousness shall prolong55 [his] days.

17

A man that doeth violence7 to the blood of [any] person shall flee4 to the pit; let no man stay4 him.

18

Whoso walketh6 uprightly shall be saved:11 but [he that is] perverse12 [in his] ways shall fall4 at once.

19

He that tilleth6 his land shall have plenty4 of bread: but he that followeth18 after vain [persons] shall have poverty enough.4

20

A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste5 to be rich53 shall not be innocent.11

21

To have respect53 of persons [is] not good: for for a piece of bread [that] man will transgress.4

22

He that hasteth12 to be rich [hath] an evil eye, and considereth4 not that poverty shall come4 upon him.

23

He that rebuketh56 a man afterwards shall find4 more favour than he that flattereth56 with the tongue.

24

Whoso robbeth6 his father or his mother, and saith,6 [It is] no transgression; the same [is] the companion of a destroyer. 7843 56

25

He that is of a proud heart stirreth up17 strife: but he that putteth his trust6 in the LORD shall be made fat.29

26

He that trusteth6 in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh6 wisely, he shall be delivered.11

27

He that giveth6 unto the poor6 shall not lack: but he that hideth56 his eyes shall have many a curse.

28

When the wicked rise,2 men hide11 themselves: but when they perish,2 the righteous increase.4
