At that time Abijah the son of Jeroboam fell sick.1
And Jeroboam said4 to his wife, Arise,3 I pray thee, and disguise100 thyself, that thou be not known4 to be the wife of Jeroboam; and get1 thee to Shiloh: behold, there [is] Ahijah the prophet, which told14 me that [I should be] king over this people.
And take1 with thee ten loaves, and cracknels, and a cruse of honey, and go1 to him: he shall tell55 thee what shall become of the child.
And Jeroboam's wife did4 so, and arose,4 and went4 to Shiloh, and came4 to the house of Ahijah. But Ahijah could1 not see;2 for his eyes were set1 by reason of his age.
And the LORD said1 unto Ahijah, Behold, the wife of Jeroboam cometh6 to ask2 a thing of thee for her son; for he [is] sick:6 thus and thus shalt thou say17 unto her: for it shall be, when she cometh in,2 that she shall feign herself [to be] another102 [woman].
And it was [so], when Ahijah heard2 the sound of her feet, as she came in6 at the door, that he said,4 Come in,3 thou wife of Jeroboam; why feignest thou thyself [to be] another?102 for I [am] sent7 to thee [with] heavy [tidings].
Go,3 tell3 Jeroboam, Thus saith1 the LORD God of Israel, Forasmuch as I exalted52 thee from among the people, and made4 thee prince over my people Israel,
And rent4 the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave4 it thee: and [yet] thou hast not been as my servant David, who kept1 my commandments, and who followed1 310 me with all his heart, to do2 [that] only [which was] right in mine eyes;
But hast done2 evil55 above all that were before thee: for thou hast gone4 and made4 thee other gods, and molten images, to provoke me to anger,53 and hast cast52 me behind thy back:
Therefore, behold, I will bring56 evil upon the house of Jeroboam, and will cut off52 from Jeroboam him that pisseth56 against the wall, [and] him that is shut up7 and left7 in Israel, and will take away14 the remnant of the house of Jeroboam, as a man taketh away17 dung, till it be all gone.2
Him that dieth5 of Jeroboam in the city shall the dogs eat;4 and him that dieth5 in the field shall the fowls of the air eat:4 for the LORD hath spoken14 [it].
Arise3 thou therefore, get3 thee to thine own house: [and] when thy feet enter2 into the city, the child shall die.1
And all Israel shall mourn1 for him, and bury1 him: for he only of Jeroboam shall come4 to the grave, because in him there is found8 [some] good thing toward the LORD God of Israel in the house of Jeroboam.
Moreover the LORD shall raise him up52 a king over Israel, who shall cut off55 the house of Jeroboam that day: but what? even now.
For the LORD shall smite52 Israel, as a reed is shaken4 in the water, and he shall root up1 Israel out of this good land, which he gave1 to their fathers, and shall scatter14 them beyond the river, because they have made1 their groves, provoking the LORD to anger.56
And he shall give4 Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, who did sin,1 and who made Israel to sin.52
And Jeroboam's wife arose,4 and departed,4 and came4 to Tirzah: [and] when she came6 to the threshold of the door, the child died;1
And they buried4 him; and all Israel mourned4 for him, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake14 by the hand of his servant Ahijah the prophet.
And the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, how he warred,8 and how he reigned,1 behold, they [are] written7 in the book of the chronicles 3117 of the kings of Israel.
And the days which Jeroboam reigned1 [were] two and twenty years: and he slept4 with his fathers, and Nadab his son reigned4 in his stead.
And Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned1 in Judah. Rehoboam [was] forty and one years old when he began to reign,2 and he reigned1 seventeen 6240 years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD did choose1 out of all the tribes of Israel, to put2 his name there. And his mother's name [was] Naamah an Ammonitess.
And Judah did4 evil in the sight of the LORD, and they provoked him to jealousy17 with their sins which they had committed,1 above all that their fathers had done.1
For they also built4 them high places, and images, and groves, on every high hill, and under every green tree.
And there were also sodomites in the land: [and] they did1 according to all the abominations of the nations which the LORD cast out52 before the children of Israel.
And it came to pass in the fifth year of king Rehoboam, [that] Shishak king of Egypt came up1 against Jerusalem:
And he took away4 the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king's house; he even took away1 all: and he took away4 all the shields of gold which Solomon had made.1
And king Rehoboam made4 in their stead brasen shields, and committed52 [them] unto the hands of the chief of the guard,5 which kept6 the door of the king's house.
And it was [so], when the king went2 into the house of the LORD, that the guard5 bare4 them, and brought them back52 into the guard5 chamber.
Now the rest of the acts of Rehoboam, and all that he did,1 [are] they not written7 in the book of the chronicles 3117 of the kings of Judah?
And there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all [their] days.
And Rehoboam slept4 with his fathers, and was buried11 with his fathers in the city of David. And his mother's name [was] Naamah an Ammonitess. And Abijam his son reigned4 in his stead.
