The Second Book of Moses, Called Exodus

Chapter 24

1

And he said1 unto Moses, Come up3 unto the LORD, thou, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel; and worship98 ye afar off.

2

And Moses alone shall come near8 the LORD: but they shall not come nigh;4 neither shall the people go up4 with him.

3

And Moses came4 and told17 the people all the words of the LORD, and all the judgments: and all the people answered4 with one voice, and said,4 All the words which the LORD hath said14 will we do.4

4

And Moses wrote4 all the words of the LORD, and rose up early55 in the morning, and builded4 an altar under the hill, and twelve 6240 pillars, according to the twelve 6240 tribes of Israel.

5

And he sent4 young men of the children of Israel, which offered55 burnt offerings, and sacrificed4 peace offerings of oxen unto the LORD.

6

And Moses took4 half of the blood, and put4 [it] in basons; and half of the blood he sprinkled1 on the altar.

7

And he took4 the book of the covenant, and read4 in the audience of the people: and they said,4 All that the LORD hath said14 will we do,4 and be obedient.4

8

And Moses took4 the blood, and sprinkled4 [it] on the people, and said,4 Behold the blood of the covenant, which the LORD hath made1 with you concerning all these words.

9

Then went up4 Moses, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel:

10

And they saw4 the God of Israel: and [there was] under his feet as it were a paved work of a sapphire stone, and as it were the body of heaven in [his] clearness.

11

And upon the nobles of the children of Israel he laid1 not his hand: also they saw4 God, and did eat4 and drink.4

12

And the LORD said4 unto Moses, Come up3 to me into the mount, and be there: and I will give4 thee tables of stone, and a law, and commandments which I have written;1 that thou mayest teach53 them.

13

And Moses rose up,4 and his minister18 Joshua: and Moses went up4 into the mount of God.

14

And he said1 unto the elders, Tarry3 ye here for us, until we come again4 unto you: and, behold, Aaron and Hur [are] with you: if any man have any matters to do, let him come4 unto them.

15

And Moses went up4 into the mount, and a cloud covered17 the mount.

16

And the glory of the LORD abode4 upon mount Sinai, and the cloud covered17 it six days: and the seventh day he called4 unto Moses out of the midst of the cloud.

17

And the sight of the glory of the LORD [was] like devouring6 fire on the top of the mount in the eyes of the children of Israel.

18

And Moses went4 into the midst of the cloud, and gat him up4 into the mount: and Moses was in the mount forty days and forty nights.
