The First Book of Moses, called Genesis

Chapter 45

1

Then Joseph could1 not refrain99 himself before all them that stood12 by him; and he cried,4 Cause every man to go out54 from me. And there stood1 no man with him, while Joseph made himself known99 unto his brethren.

2

And he4 wept aloud: and the Egyptians and the house of Pharaoh heard.4 8085 4

3

And Joseph said4 unto his brethren, I [am] Joseph; doth my father yet live? And his brethren could1 not answer2 him; for they were troubled8 at his presence.

4

And Joseph said4 unto his brethren, Come near3 to me, I pray you. And they came near.4 And he said,4 I [am] Joseph your brother, whom ye sold1 into Egypt.

5

Now therefore be not grieved,11 nor angry4 with yourselves, that ye sold1 me hither: for God did send1 me before you to preserve life.

6

For these two years [hath] the famine [been] in the land: and yet [there are] five years, in the which [there shall] neither [be] earing nor harvest.

7

And God sent4 me before you to preserve2 you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives53 by a great deliverance.

8

So now [it was] not you [that] sent1 me hither, but God: and he hath made4 me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler6 throughout all the land of Egypt.

9

Haste16 ye, and go up3 to my father, and say1 unto him, Thus saith1 thy son Joseph, God hath made1 me lord of all Egypt: come down3 unto me, tarry4 not:

10

And thou shalt dwell1 in the land of Goshen, and thou shalt be near unto me, thou, and thy children, and thy children's children, and thy flocks, and thy herds, and all that thou hast:

11

And there will I nourish43 thee; for yet [there are] five years of famine; lest thou, and thy household, and all that thou hast, come to poverty.11

12

And, behold, your eyes see,6 and the eyes of my brother Benjamin, that [it is] my mouth that speaketh18 unto you.

13

And ye shall tell52 my father of all my glory in Egypt, and of all that ye have seen;1 and ye shall haste14 and bring down52 my father hither.

14

And he fell4 upon his brother Benjamin's neck, and wept;4 and Benjamin wept1 upon his neck.

15

Moreover he kissed17 all his brethren, and wept4 upon them: and after that his brethren talked14 with him.

16

And the fame thereof was heard8 in Pharaoh's house, saying,2 Joseph's brethren are come:1 and it pleased4 Pharaoh well, and his servants.

17

And Pharaoh said4 unto Joseph, Say3 unto thy brethren, This do3 ye; lade3 your beasts, and go,3 get3 you unto the land of Canaan;

18

And take3 your father and your households, and come3 unto me: and I will give4 you the good of the land of Egypt, and ye shall eat3 the fat of the land.

19

Now thou art commanded,27 this do3 ye; take3 you wagons out of the land of Egypt for your little ones, and for your wives, and bring1 your father, and come.1

20

Also regard4 not your stuff; for the good of all the land of Egypt [is] yours.

21

And the children of Israel did4 so: and Joseph gave4 them wagons, according to the commandment of Pharaoh, and gave4 them provision for the way.

22

To all of them he gave1 each man changes of raiment; but to Benjamin he gave1 three hundred [pieces] of silver, and five changes of raiment.

23

And to his father he sent1 after this [manner]; ten asses laden6 with the good things of Egypt, and ten she asses laden6 with corn and bread and meat for his father by the way.

24

So he sent his brethren away,17 and they departed:4 and he said4 unto them, See that ye fall not out4 by the way.

25

And they went up4 out of Egypt, and came4 into the land of Canaan unto Jacob their father,

26

And told55 him, saying,2 Joseph [is] yet alive, and he [is] governor6 over all the land of Egypt. And Jacob's heart fainted,4 for he believed52 them not.

27

And they told17 him all the words of Joseph, which he had said14 unto them: and when he saw4 the wagons which Joseph had sent1 to carry2 him, the spirit of Jacob their father revived:4

28

And Israel said,4 [It is] enough; Joseph my son [is] yet alive: I will go4 and see4 him before I die.4
